Privacy Policy

Bible Buddy is a devotional companion app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: the app works without an account, your reflections and notes stay on your device, and we never sell your data.

What works without any account

Everything core: today's path, reading, listening, reflections, your streak, downloads, and the reminder. Progress is stored locally on your device ("local-first"). If you delete the app without linking an account, that local data is deleted with it.

What we collect, and why

• App-usage analytics. We record product events — for example that onboarding steps were completed (including which answer option was chosen), that a day's path was started or completed, or that playback failed — with a pseudonymous identifier, using PostHog. We use this to understand how the app is used and to improve it. We never record what you type: your name is stored on your device, and reflections, hopes, and chat messages are never sent to analytics.
• Advertising attribution. On iOS, only if you allow tracking in the system prompt, we share install/conversion signals with Meta (Facebook) so we can know which ads work. Sensitive selections — such as faith or mood answers — are never shared with advertising services. If you decline the prompt, attribution stays off.
• Chat messages. When you write to chat, your message is sent to our server and to OpenAI, which we use to work out what you are asking about so we can find scripture that fits. If you have saved or collected verses, we also send the references — "John 3:16", not the words, and not your reflections or notes. Chat replies are assembled here from our own copy of the Bible and from lines our team wrote, so nothing you read is written by an AI. Your messages are not sent to analytics, not used for advertising, and your conversation history stays on your device.
• Purchases. Subscriptions are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. We receive subscription status (for example "trial started" or "cancelled"), never your card details.
• Optional account. If you choose to link an account (Sign in with Apple or Google), we store an account identifier and a synced copy of your progress, streak, favourites, reflections, and preferences so they can follow you across devices. This is the only case where reflection text leaves your device, and it is used solely to sync it back to you.

What we never do

• No selling or renting personal data.
• No reading your reflections or hopes for any purpose other than syncing them back to your own devices when you linked an account.
• No using your chat messages for anything but answering them — never for analytics, advertising, or building a profile of you.
• No sharing faith, mood, or struggle answers with advertisers.
• No third-party ads inside the app.

Legal bases (EEA/UK)

We process usage analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the app; advertising attribution only with your consent (the iOS tracking prompt); account sync to perform our contract with you; chat messages to provide the reply you asked for; and purchase records to comply with legal obligations and perform the contract.

Retention and deletion

Local data lives on your device and is yours. Synced account data is kept while your account exists; email us to delete your account and its synced data, and we will do so within 30 days. Analytics events are retained in aggregate form for product measurement.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Email us and we will help. You can also withdraw ad-tracking consent at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

Children

Bible Buddy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will note it in the app and update the date above.

Bible Buddy is a devotional companion, not a substitute for your church, pastor, or community.
